An Established Sitar artist belonging to the Maihar-Senia gharana tradition renowned for its systematic unfoldment of a raga as well as a strict adherence to tunefulness even while playing in fast temp.
Sanjay Guha began his musical journey at an early age under the guidance of his uncle, Sri Satyabrata Guha (disciple of the late Pandit Balram Pathak). Looking to extend his knowledge in Indian classical music he studied under the late Sarod maestro, Radhika Mohan Maitra before apprenticing for 24 years under the late Pandit Deepak Chowdhury. From 2004 Sanjay Guha received special guidance from the late Pandit Ravi Shankar.
As a dedicated musician and theorist he has also received tuition from musicians of the South Indian music tradition such as Vidwan Padma Vibhushan M.Balamurali Krishna.
He is a Fellow of Trinity College, London and at present heads the Sitar department at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London.
Sanjay is not just a performer but a modern composer and conductor of the highest calibre and has written many compositions which he has performed on many occasions and even arranged for London Sitar Ensemble as its artistic director.
Sanjay is renowned for performing ragas which are rarely heard and not only keeping alive old traditional music but also reviving them with a blend of his own imagination. Sanjay is a soulful sitarist who brings peace and solace to the minds of connoisseurs and novices alike.
